Drug Education Blog

Welcome to our blog

Posted August 24, 2011 by Dan Reist

The development of knowledge and its application to policy and practice and life is central to the mission of CARBC. In the process of developing our second five-year plan, we renewed our commitment to mobilizing knowledge – to ensuring that the right knowledge is available to the right people at the right time in the right format. While this may be an impossible ideal, this blog is one of the new methods we will be employing to engage in conversation with you.

In the blog we will share evidence and ideas that we believe are relevant to promoting health literacy and addressing substance use in schools. We will make every effort to ensure that the information we share reflects current evidence and is based on sound theory. We will do our best to make sure it is relevant and useful to educators or other school professionals.

But then we need you. Use the comments to tell us what works (and what doesn’t). Raise questions. Offer suggestions. Share your experience. Together we can help schools – help each other – help students learn to manage the psychoactive substances in our world.

Now for some news. This fall we will be releasing new versions of our iMinds modules. In particular, the Grade 7 material has been extensively rewritten. But more on that later. We will also be releasing a new motivational brief intervention kit to help you work with students who may be developing problematic patterns of substance use. And, last but not least (maybe not even last), a new multi-media Planning 10 module addressing drugs and driving will be ready for pilot testing in October.

Check out the new iMinds look by downloading our iMinds primer or the Quick Guide to Drug Use. As new material is available, we will let you know through this blog and through our Twitter account. Of course, most of what we share will not be new “products” but thoughts and ideas. Hopefully some of them will be useful to you.
