iMinds is a health education resource for grades 6-10 that aims to help students maximize their drug literacy – the knowledge and skills they need to survive and thrive in a world where drug use is common.
Students get much more out of the lessons than simply a better understanding of issues involving alcohol, cannabis and other substances. iMinds helps students explore individual, social and environmental factors that influence many of their choices and behaviours, including those related to drug use. Students also learn how their choices and behaviours influence their environment, the people around them and their own health and wellbeing.
Built on constructivist educational theory, iMinds does not require teachers to have any special knowledge or training related to behavioural science, drug use or mental health. The teacher’s role is to facilitate the learning process in a safe environment.
Each module includes
- background information for the teacher,
- six easy-to-implement lesson plans,
- evaluation rubrics, and
- a set of photocopy masters for all handouts.
All modules are freely available upon registration. No special equipment is needed, and the only materials required are those readily available in most schools.
